デンマークの地主ケティルは奴隷のエイナルにトルフィンと協力して広大な森を開墾するよう命じる。
開墾した畑の収穫物の金額が自身の値段を上回れば「自由」を与えるという条件に驚き喜ぶエイナル。だがトルフィンの表情は変わらず暗いままであった。
“Danish landowner Ketil orders his slave Einar to work with Thorfinn to exploit a vast forest.
Einar is excited by the condition that he will be given “”freedom”” if the value of the harvest from the cultivated fields exceeds his own price. Even so, Thorfinn’s expression remains as dark as ever.”
